A single-herb liquid extract of dried seeds of Oenothera biennis, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Evening primrose flowers open at dusk, and they do it fast enough to sit and watch: a bud unwraps in a minute or two, the petals springing back and releasing scent for the hawkmoths that work it. It is a strict biennial — a flat ground rosette the first year, a tall flowering spike the second — native to North America and naturalised across Europe since the seventeenth century. The small dark seed is one of very few plant sources of gamma-linolenic acid.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Evening primrose may add to the effect of anticoagulant medicines; stop use two weeks before surgery. Take advice first if you have epilepsy or take phenothiazine medicines. Not for use in pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
